From tiny seeds, grow mighty trees.

Our Mission

Tiny Seeds Forest School is a child-centered, nature-based, early childhood education program located in South Lake Tahoe, on the ancestral lands of the Washoe. We serve families with children that are ages 3-5 years old and potty trained. Our program is dedicated to fostering a deep connection between children and the natural world.

Tiny Seeds runs two additional programs throughout the year, Youth Nature Connection (YNC) & Mini Mushrooms.

YNC is an after-school program for children ages 5-8 years old; and Mini Mushrooms is a caregiver and child program for children ages 6 month - 3 years old and their caregivers (moms, dads, grandparents, or nannies).

Tiny Seeds Forest School aims to promote the holistic growth and development of each child through regular sessions in outdoor learning environments.

Our programs seek to cultivate confidence, resilience, and self-esteem in each of our students through inspired hands-on experiences in the best classroom of all— the great outdoors!

What is a Forest School?

A forest school is an early childhood educational approach that promotes learner-led outdoor play, exploration, and supported risk taking. It offers opportunities for whole-child developmental growth through regular sessions in outdoor locations.

Our Philosophy

Tiny Seeds Forest School is rooted in the idea that each child (much like a tiny seed) when given the proper care and setting, is able to blossom and grow to lead a more fulfilled, capable, creative, and resilient life.

We see nature as our greatest teacher, and seek to hold space for each child to form connections with themselves, to each other, and to the natural world as they develop a deep reverence for it.

Tiny Seeds Forest School sees play, creative expression and supported risk taking as the most developmentally appropriate avenues for children to grow socially, emotionally, physically, cognitively, and creatively.

Tiny Seeds Forest School emulates all of the qualities of a traditional forest school. Our program weaves in aspects of traditional ecological knowledge throughout our daily curriculum and also pulls inspiration from the Montessori & Reggio Emilia educational approaches.
