Caydi Dommeyer grew up in a rural town in the mountains behind Santa Barbara, California, and has fond memories of a childhood spent mostly outdoors. It is now her goal and life mission to hold space for the children of this generation to have the same opportunity to grow and learn as they build a relationship with the natural world that surrounds them. Caydi has been working in the realm of outdoor education over the past nine years. She has worked as a lead farm-camp counselor, an elementary school garden educator, & lead forest school teacher.
Caydi attended Cal. State Monterey Bay where she graduated in 2013 with a degree in Global Studies, with an emphasis in food systems, and a minor in Visual & Public Art. Caydi's undergraduate studies opened her eyes to the way that we feed ourselves on a large scale, and the ramifications that large-scale corporate farming has on our health and the health of our planet. Caydi soon understood the most practical way to begin to heal our food system and ourselves is through organic farming and educational outreach. After moving back to the Santa Barbara area, Caydi continued to follow her passion by taking classes in the Environmental Horticulture and Early Childhood Education programs at Santa Barbara City College.
Before delving into the world of forest schools, Caydi’s journey in outdoor education began when she accepted an apprenticeship at a educational organic farm called Fairview Gardens. During her time at Fairview Gardens, Caydi went on to serve as a program lead for educational farm based summer camps, after-school programs, as well as a nature and food connection program for infants, toddlers, and parents called SPROUTS! After her time with Fairview Gardens, Caydi began working as a Garden Educator for a nonprofit organization called, Explore Ecology. Teaching Pre-K through 8th grade, her classes focused on nature awareness, gardening skills, and how to cook and enjoy the food she and the students grew together.
During the 2020-2021 school year, Caydi was a lead teacher at A Thousand Mornings Forest School, a nature-based early childhood education program located in Santa Barbara. She stayed with the program through its first year of operation, and has gone on to fulfill a longtime dream of hers, opening her own nature-based early childhood program, Tiny Seeds Forest School.
Tiny Seeds Forest School is the culmination of Caydi’s passion, experience, and previous work made visible. Caydi hopes that through teaching our children to care for the natural world, for themselves, and for each other, that she can in turn make our future a better place for all beings to live.
